Full Details

Built by the Phoenix Foundry in Ballarat, Victoria, between 1900 and 1901, the V class was the first 2-8-0 locomotive class on the Victorian Railways, designed for use on branch lines around Victoria, and was a predecessor to the K class and J class locomotives. Originally built as Vauclain Compound locomotives, which used the steam twice to propel the locomotive before exhausting out the chimney, the class was reboilered and converted to Simple Expansion locomotives in 1912-13. Later, from 1923, the class was renumbered between 200 and V215 (several locos were scrapped prior to renumbering). The first to be scrapped was V513 in June 1924, with V499 (now V200) being the last in 1930.

The Phoenix Foundry locos included several improvements and chances over the Baldwin pattern loco (V499), including Phoenix Foundry builders plates on the cab and tender, standard Victorian Railways 'dart' smokebox door lock, and curved flare on the tender. When first introduced to service, the Phoenix Foundry V classes were paintedin 2 Tone Green with white lining and polished brass steam dome, boiler bands, and other details and polished steel cylinder covers.

This pack features the Phoenix Foundry V class locomotives, as running between 1900 and approximately 1905-7, in 2 Tone Green livery, with 3 levels of weathering, and highly detailed textures using TRS19's new PBR materials with height maps.
